From Governor Inslee’s Office . . . On Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

December 15, 2020 by webmaster Leave a Comment

A historic commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Inslee puts forward significant investments to address systemic racism, eliminate racial disparities within state government and Washington communities.

After multiple, horrific deaths that included George Floyd and Washington’s own Manuel Ellis, people across the nation rose up by the millions to protest systemic racism and demand change. To meet
this challenge, we will take action against past injustices and lay the foundation for a Washington where everyone can thrive and live successful lives. The governor will respond to bias and discrimination with a bold and assertive package of proposals that address systemic racism.

Links to Help with Election Problems and Misinformation from Town Hall Project

October 29, 2020 by Deb Cruz Leave a Comment

Voter Protection Hotline. The vast majority of voting experiences will be easy, but there may be challenges in select locations. Make sure you and your community know to call or text 1-866-OUR-VOTE or visit 866ourvote.org for live answers to any questions about voting rights and procedures, or to report any issues you experience or witness at the polls.

2. Beware of Disinformation. It’s human nature to want to share something alarming you see online. But know that active disinformation isn’t just possible this year, it’s likely. And disinformation campaigns can be powerful ways to scare people from voting. So please, in these next few days — and especially on Election Day — only share stories or reports you see from reputable journalists or state and local elections officials.

If you see disinformation about voting in an online post or ad, do your part to stop the spread. Don’t engage, react or comment — that only means more people will see it!

Do take a screenshot to submit it to ReportDisinfo.org. Then share official voting information, like your local election official or Secretary of State. Do your part to keep voters safe from disinformation!

3. Town Hall Pledge. We don’t endorse candidates at Town Hall Project, but we love to highlight candidates who’ve taken the common-sense Town Hall Pledge to hold regular town halls (virtual until its safe again) with their constituents. Over 100 candidates this year have taken the pledge, including dozens of sitting members of Congress. If you have friends still making up their mind, let them know why accessibility and accountability are essential qualities in a public servant: townhallpledge.com

Need encouragement? Join Side With Love for Monday Movement Moments, Nov. 2,9 Online

October 29, 2020 by Deb Cruz Leave a Comment

We are proud of the ways our Faith continues to #SideWithLove and be present to the World. We are in the final days before a historic election and we want to offer you an opportunity to provide Faithful Witness at The Polls. Whether your congregation is a polling site or is interested in offering some warmth and kindness at undoubtedly tense polling stations, we have ideas for how we can offer faithful responses that are at the heart of Side With Love. You can view the 30 minute webinar here.

What does it mean to continue to “harvest our power” when we are tired or overwhelmed? There’s no magical fix, but knowing you are NOT alone and that others can help find the answers helps.

Join Side With Love on Monday Movement Moments for a 30-minute check-in and highlights of what’s happening across the country and ways you can get involved. Monday Movement Moment Nov. 2,9 at 9:30am PT. You can watch past episodes here.

Revolutionary Elders Project , First Event October 24, Online

October 22, 2020 by Deb Cruz Leave a Comment

Among many cultures elders have an important place in the community, especially during turbulent times. Turtle Island, otherwise known as the United States, is undergoing monumental shifts on all levels: culturally, politically, economically, environmentally and spiritually. It is a time to mobilize, educate, reflect, connect and take action.

Young people are driving the change with energy and passion. Our actions have the potential to be grounded with wisdom and perspective from elders. This exchange is not only necessary, it is essential if we are to sustain for the long haul.

People from all backgrounds of any age are invited to join this virtual elder council to listen and engage with elders who generously share their stories to support us all in sustaining ourselves, each other, and the planet.
