BLM Flash Stance – Issaquah- Sunday, Nov 11

November 8, 2018 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Join UU activists and others in a Black Lives Matter Flash Stance this Sunday, Novemeber 11, for a vigil speaking out against the marginalization of people of color in our area and in the nation.

We will be standing on the corner of 56th and Eastlake Sammamish Parkway in Issaquah from 12:30 to 1:30 PM.

Adults and children hug, smile, and hold signs in support of Black LivesThis past Tuesday was a telling day. Votes were being cast. The White Nationalists conversations and talking points were spilling out into the political mainstream.  In the past week, yet more people have been shot in Pittsburgh and Louisville and Florida.

We can’t be silent. They aren’t.

My deep feeling is that being silent is being complicit. As Robin Diangelo says, “… if we are silent, we internalize and accept. We must interrupt racism everywhere we find it.” We need to be strong together and start a conversation that presents the rational viewpoint in our national discourse. If there isn’t a strong voice the vaccuum will be filled by the nonsense on StormFront and PatrioticFront and GAG.

A man under an umbrella in a heavy coat stands proudly in front of and holding signs in support of black lives. As Manny Brown says, “This is not a political thing. It is spiritual. It involves the best part of ourselves”. Let’s lead a conversation “from the best part of ourselves”. Join us this Sunday. Hope to see you there!

Join me, UUs from across the Eastside and other people of faith as we stand together this Sunday.
