Below is a letter that is being circulated for sending to our Congressional representatives requesting that no addition funds be appropriated for ICE, CBP or the border wall. Please consider either sending this same letter, or better yet, personalize it and send it onto Senators Murray and Cantwell. Also, consider sending to whoever your House representative is (since they’ll be appropriated funds!). If you’re not in Washington, please send this to whoever your representatives are!
Since taking office, the Trump Administration has used Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to implement inhumane and xenophobic policies: from the Muslim ban, to the separation of children from their parents at the border, to illegally denying asylum seekers the opportunity to seek protection.
Congress faces a deadline of December 21 to determine the funding levels of these agencies and the President has threatened to shut down parts of the federal government if Congress does not agree to spend billions on a border wall. The Department of Homeland Security has already been overspending its own budget in order to detain even more community members and asylum seekers. We have seen over the past two years the impact of ICE and CBP on immigrant communities and Congress should not be granting these agencies even more resources.
Please reject any and all additional funding for ICE and CBP and to say no to the President’s border wall.
