Webinar: Support for Those Fighting Deportation (online)
April 11, 2019 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
It’s a hopeful sign to see so many people of faith offer their church buildings and other spaces to house people fighting deportation, and we also know that physical sanctuary is often a last resort. That’s why Love Resists is working with partners around the country to create a directory of accompaniment networks that support arriving asylum-seekers and community members facing deportation.
Please join the info session on Wednesday, April 10th at 8pm EST if you want to learn more about accompaniment networks that offer support in many ways—from raising funds for bonds to get out of detention, to obtaining legal counsel, to going to ICE and immigration court hearings, to helping meet the needs of individuals and families—as well as how to sponsor and host asylum-seekers.
Speakers include Rev. Elizabeth Nguyen, Rev. Dottie Mathews, and other UUs involved on the ground with sponsorship and accompaniment. Get your questions answered and learn the real nuts and bolts of how to provide this kind of community protection and solidarity to our undocumented siblings.
Join the info session Wednesday, April 10 at 8pm EST. (Even if you're unsure if you can making, by RSVPing, you'll get a note when the webinar is posted online.)

This year we march once again to reclaim our struggles as immigrants, workers, and without borders. We are here because of the insecurity, crime, and corruption unleashed in our countries by bad governments with the support and intervention of the U.S. We are here because of political repression and exploitation of workers and the dispossession of our natural resources and territories. We are here refusing to be victims of the few who benefit from this system and the impoverishment, displacement and death that they wreak upon on our peoples. Hosted by El Comité and SEIU6 Property Services NW,

May 14, 2019 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Vashon Theatre, 17723 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon, WA
What happens to Syrian refugees given haven in a western country? This striking suburban Baltimore set film paints a fascinating picture of the USA through the eyes of four families going through the country’s refugee self-sufficiency resettlement programme. The journey towards acculturation includes buying hijabs featuring the stars and stripes; discovering twelve hour working days; and beginning to confront the challenging gender expectations of their new home. This Is Home gives a novel portrait of America, whilst conveying the resilience of its shipwrecked subjects in a moving and compelling fashion.
