Marcus Casey, Ph.D. of The Brookings Institution, will discuss the consequences of growing income and wealth inequality on the economic prospects of middle-class and poor households. His discussion will begin with a descriptive picture of how wealth and income differences have evolved since the Great Recession across demographic groups. Then, he will discuss how uneven economic growth and the housing crisis exacerbates these problems. He will close with a discuss of potential policy solutions. Dr. Casey is currently a David M. Rubenstein Fellow in Economic Studies at The Brookings Institution — see his bio here.
Dr. Casey’s work focuses on neighborhood change, gentrification, and amenities; the consequences of growing wealth and income inequality on households/neighborhoods, and the impact of school choice on educational markets. He is also on the faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago and a research consultant with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
