Two Events with Best-selling Eco-theologian Rev. Michael Dowd, Oct. 20, Bellingham WA

October 8, 2019 by webmaster Leave a Comment

“Sustainable means accountable to the future. Unsustainable means unaccountable to the future. Everything else is but a footnote or distraction.” ~ Rev. Michael Dowd

Time: October 20, 2019 from 10:30 am to noon

“A Humble Relationship to Reality.”  Rev. Dowd speaks to the intersection of science, inspiration, and sustainability. He will explore healthy vs. unhealthy ways of relating to temporal and spatial reality and offer practical guidance for nurturing a mythic relationship to time and nature that doesn’t require believing in anything.

Time: October 20, 2019 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm

Regenerative Inspiration in Challenging Times: A Dialogue with Michael Dowd and Joe Brewer.  Join us for a dialogue between two friends who share a passion for catalyzing change toward greater resilience in our turbulent world. Topic of discussion includes:  The task of bioregional regeneration as part of an emerging global movement to regenerate the entire planet. Humanity has destabilized the Earth’s self-regulating abilities and now must restore health and resilience across various scales from local to global in the coming decades. How to stay sane, sober, and inspired to act locally and become ever more resilient in chaotic and contracting times.

Co-sponsored with: David MacLeod, Transition Whatcom

Location: Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship (BUF), 1207 Ellsworth St., Bellingham WA

Donations will be accepted.

Rev. Michael Dowd is a bestselling eco-theologian and pro-science, pro-future ‘evangelist’ whose work has been featured in the New York Times, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Newsweek, Discover, and on television nationally. His book, Thank God for Evolution was endorsed by 6 Nobel Prize winning scientists, noted skeptics, and religious leaders across the spectrum. Michael is currently recording a host of “Post-Doom Conversations”.

More info on Rev. Dowd at http://www.thegreatstory.org/itinerary.html.  Also, here is a link to some of the reviews Dowd and Barlow have had from UUs and other faith groups:  http://michaeldowd.org/endorsements/uu/.  Michael has delivered two TEDx talks and a program at the United Nations. He has also conducted an acclaimed online conversation series: “The Future Is Calling Us to Greatness.” Dowd’s passion for proclaiming a pro-science message of inspiration — what he calls “the gospel of right relationship to reality” — has earned him the moniker ‘Rev. Reality’, as he speaks prophetically in secular and religious settings alike about our sacred responsibility to future generations.

Joe Brewer is currently Executive Director of the Center for Applied Cultural Evolution and served on the leadership team of the Regenerative Communities Network earlier this year. He writes regularly for Resilience.org and the Evolution Institute.  In recent years, Joe has focused on advocating for an approach focused on “regeneration” as the core principle in the design of economic systems, communities, and educational systems.
