Support Bill to Curtail Use of Local Resources for Federal Civil Immigration Work

April 12, 2019 by webmaster Leave a Comment

One of the major bills FAN has been following this session has been Keep Washington Working (E2SSB 5497). We invite you to take action TODAY, and we share below more information on KWW from our partners at the ACLU:

This important bill protects the privacy and civil rights of all Washington residents, focuses local law enforcement resources on protecting local communities, and defends local autonomy—putting Washington first.

Email your Representatives here.

Nearly one million Washingtonians – one in every seven people in this state – are immigrants, and they are an integral part of our communities and workforce. When local law enforcement does the work of federal immigration authorities:

  • It subjects people of color to discriminatory racial profiling and harassment;
  • Diverts local resources and taxpayer dollars away from local public safety issues;
  • Harms Washington’s economy;
  • Discourages people from contacting first responders, which makes everyone less safe.

Tell your Representatives to support the Keep Washington Working Act (KWW), put it to the House floor for a vote, and pass it before April 17. Email your Representatives here.
