WHY COME TO A MEETING:

1) WA IMMIGRANT RELIEF FUND: The Washington Immigrant Relief Fund is a result of WAISN statewide organizing vision to build community power. Identifying the need as early as March through our WAISN Hotline, we rapidly began to convene policy conversations on April to address the crises with short and long term solutions. We led this effort while simultaneously supporting grassroots efforts to provide economic relief and assistance to food security working with our partners and members.  We have been centering those directly impacted to demand and win $40M from Governor Inslee to provide further economic relief for this fall.

Eligibility Criteria to Be Consider for the Fund:

  • Are a Washington resident;
  • Are at least 18 years of age;
  • Have experienced hardship due to the pandemic; and
  • Are ineligible to receive unemployment insurance compensation or federal stimulus dollars due to immigration status.

Form of Aid: One-time cash grants in the form of checks, pre-paid cards & electronic checks

Amount of Aid: $1,000 per qualifying adult – $3,000 limit/household

Application Will Open on October 16th – Sign Up Here to Stay Informed: https://actionnetwork.org/forms/sign-up-for-wa-worker-relief-fund-updates

2) IMMIGRANT HEALTH RESPONSE: In partnership with the UW Latino Center for Health, ACLU of Washington, Northwest Health Law Advocates, El Centro De La Raza, & Latinos Promoting Good Health we have launch a statewide survey that will identify further how COVID is impacting and spreading in our communities which will help us identify the blue blueprints of a Healthcare Access Campaign for the 2021 Legislative Session and more.

Would your organization assist us in distributing information about this survey, to ensure that a wide range of immigrant communities in WA can participate?

Webinar: Learn how to engage those on the fence about voting, esp. young, Black and Latinx

September 23, 2020 by Deb Cruz Leave a Comment

On September 30th, Demos and Boston University Center for Antiracist Research will host The Other Swing Voter: Visioning Forward virtual convening from 8 am to noon PT.

THE OTHER SWING VOTER is defined as voters who oscillate between voting and not voting (or voting third party). These voters are predominantly young, Black and Latinx, and they must be at the center of antiracist electoral organizing strategies, power-building, and policy analyses.

During this afternoon of political education, Black and Latinx grassroots political organizers, as well as researchers and policymakers, will detail how to build cross-sectoral relationships that allow knowledge sharing, analysis, and the development of freedom-forward strategies for organizing and sustaining this voting bloc. More information and program.

Celebrate National Public Lands Day

September 22, 2020 by Deb Cruz Leave a Comment

To celebrate National Public Lands Day 2020, the Mountains to Sound Greenway is running the campaign: Love Your Lands.  Due to COVID-19, outdoor recreation spaces are receiving increased use.  It is great that folks are getting outside, but this increased use has also increased the amount of litter in public spaces.  The Love Your Lands campaign is to encourage folks to get outdoors and love your public natural spaces by picking up trash.  Picking up trash can be fun and Mountains to Sound Greenway is offering a  top collector prize.  There is also a fun, free downloadable app call Litterati to share your litter collecting program.  The event is now until Sept. 26th.

“The Condor and the Eagle” film screening and fundraiser for Tokitae Fund of Lummi Nation’s Lhaqtemish Foundation

September 18, 2020 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Join the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth, the Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship and many other friends and allies as we come together virtually as people of faith and conscience to celebrate the Fall Equinox, watch this award-winning documentary, hear from the filmmakers & protagonists, and unite the faith community and allies in the movement for Indigenous rights and climate justice.
Even if you’ve already seen the film, join us again as we listen to the voices of Lummi Nation and Ponca Nations.
This day before the 50th Anniversary of Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut’s arrival at Miami Seaquarium.  Doug and Jewell James will speak to the heart in a significant way about bringing  Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut (Tokitae) home.  This is not just about returning a whale to the wild.  It’s about recognizing and honoring Lummi “Schlangen” (life ways).  It’s about Truth and Reconciliation.  It’s about restoring and protecting the Salish Sea and all the lives that depend on Her.

And then, it’s about our future on this planet.

“Four Indigenous leaders embark on an extraordinary trans-continental adventure from the Canadian Boreal forests to deep into the heart of the Amazonian jungle to unite the peoples of North and South America and deepen the meaning of “Climate Justice”. The Condor & The Eagle documentary offers a glimpse into a developing spiritual renaissance as the film four protagonists learn from each other’s long legacy of resistance to colonialism and its extractive economy.”
