Vision
The Legislative Conference and actions of JUUstice Washington are driven by the commitments of Unitarian-Universalists to social action. Our seven principles call for commitments to human justice in the form of social justice, criminal justice reform, political reform and environmental justice.
Mission
Legislative engagement devoted to carrying out moral obligations requires the review and promotion of actions that address specific bills and initiatives. In an annual Legislative Conference, Unitarian-Universalists choose and rank legislative priorities for further action. When bills come before the legislature, we call on Unitarian-Universalists to engage with their legislators, on an individual basis or at hearings, and speak for or against specific proposals. When initiatives are proposed, we call on Unitarian-Universalists to engage with the public and campaign for or against proposals. We carry our moral commitments into these engagements and speak on behalf of the faith community from our Unitarian-Universalist viewpoint.
Guidelines
The Legislative Conference is designed as a forum for Unitarian-Universalists in Washington State to prioritize issues so that we can focus our attention on the legislation that affects those issues. We use a discussion method with congregations meeting separately for part of the conference to discuss priorities. After congregations have separate discussions we meet together as a whole to review the proposed priorities.
- Issues that are not on the ballot may still be nominated and discussed.
- You will have until 3pm on the Tuesday following the conference to vote for your legislative priorities.
- Votes will be by email from members who have attended.
